Becoming a Professional

Throughout this past week in ISM, we are taking the very final steps before we step out into the real world for interviews, experiences, and more. I finally finished my contact list of almost 35 names of professionals in the field of marketing for major international corporations such as Pepsico, 7-11, Dr.Pepper Snapple Group, and Boston Consulting Group. I have started connecting with these professionals on LinkedIn, and I have started sending emails to them. Often, emails and phone numbers of the employees are not given online. Therefore, I would need to call the company and ask to speak to a specific person and connect with them that way. I have realized through the beginnings of trying to connect with people that often calls are much more effective than emails. When someone has a very well-established and successful career in a field, often their inboxes are flooded with emails, and they might not see my email. However, if I call them, which is albeit a little scarier, they are most likely to respond and agree to meet with me or do a phone interview. In addition to contacting professionals, I have also finalized my resume, so that I can present it when going to interviews. This past week, the further research I have conducted has also taught me more about various marketing strategies. In the coming weeks, I hope to contact more professionals and research more in-depth into my topic.
